Campaign To Save Tesla's Lab Raises $850,000 In A Week

Last week, we told you that the founder of The Oatmeal, Matthew Inman, was looking for a way to purchase Nikola Tesla's old tower and make it into a museum. In just one week, his $850,000 fundraising goal has been reached and exceeded. Wow!

The property is on the market for $1.6 million, and New York State agreed to match a donation up to $850,000. Donations reached $873,000, so now they can afford to purchase and preserve the tower. The group still needs at least an additional $5 million to turn it into a full fledged museum.

This goal got a boost from Tesla's Elon Musk and a last minute donation of $33,000 from a generous patron.

During the week, 20,000 people have donated and the drive has generated an average of $145,000 per day.
