The all-new, rear-wheel-drive Cadillac ATS sedan will be priced starting at $33,990, including destination charges. At that price point you'll get the 2.5-liter inline-four engine mated to a six-speed auto transmission.

The mid-level model with the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-banger costs $35,795 including destination and will offer automatic and manual transmissions, and your choice of rear- or all-wheel drive.

Topping the engine range is the 3.6-liter V6 (with a preliminary rating of 320 HP) — that'll cost you $42,090 including destination with an automatic transmission and standard content including Cadillac's new CUE infotainment system, leather 8-way power seats with memory, adaptive start and more. All-wheel drive will also be available.

Cadillac tells us that detailed pricing will be available at a later date.

But what do you think? Is $33,990 — a grand less than the starting price of the BMW 3 Series — the right price for the car Caddy hopes will tell Germany to suck it?

I was fortunate enough to go to the Chicago Auto Show on Press Day, meaning short lines, and sit in car as damn long as you please to feel everything out. (Specially higher end cars, woohoo!)

Cadillac ATS was on my list of "Gotta check out" because of all the "vs. BMW" hype and whatnot. It would be wonderful to have a Cadillac on the world stage.

My standard procedure when feeling out a stationary car at the show is get in, turn on the radio, and blast it loud as I feel everything up. SO I hop into the ATS, and attempt to use the touche screen radio. Turn on ... good. I fiddle a bit to find how to switch from Satellite radio. Took a bit, but got it. I get no vibration cue or anything that lets me know if I am touching the right thing ... so that is annoying in itself. I try to get to local radio like I do in every car, to blast some good ole rock and roll and metal, preferably some Led Zeppelin just like in those great Cadillac commercials earlier this century!

I flip to get to the stations, wait, how do I switch stations? Finger ... swipe across this bar? Is this where I press? Am I pressing in the right area? Hold on, that did something. No wait, I over shot my station. Go back. Okay no, stop processing, you're not my school computer trying to run Car Town and Youtube Vids at the same time, so please switch what I want ... NOW!!

Okay I think I froze the thing, let's try again. Turn off, restart. Here we got ... press ... press... (more like caress, for pete's sake) over shoot station, over shoot. Try to get the volume up too, wait ... caressing the wrong part of the screen. Okay got something, no wait it's freezing up again because I am touching too much?

I know what you are thinking, "2888GTOhYEAH, just use the steer wheel mounted controls!" sadly, not only were they not marked, making them all guess work, you still need to stare at the screen to see if you are going to the screen you want, and the station and volume you want, which was yielding similar, laggy, freezing up, need to restart, results. I realize that I wasted over 5 minutes, 5 MINUTES attempting to operate a radio, meaning I would have lost 5 minutes in my drive way attempting to operate this new age high tech wonder". I literally wanted to put an axe or bullet in the car right then and there!! CADILLAC, W T F?!

I, quickly leave, that car with a frozen menu screen, and escape to my dream car, CTS-V. Lo and behold it's got buttons and knobs!! I press it on, switch to what I want, control volume with a quick twist, "bada-boom bada-bang," in around 15-20 seconds I am blasting my music of choice, now able to admire the Alcantara Steering Wheel, comfy ass seats, and rest of the gadgets and gizmos!

The message is to the automotive world: PLEASE don't get rid of buttons and knobs. I need them to be able to exactly know what and where I am pressing, and to be able to manipulate a radio without my eyes EVER leaving the road. I have no time for a f***ing computer to crap out on my while trying to process the simplest requests. PLEASE leave the knobs and buttons.

I return back to the show on public day, to catch up on some cars I missed, and to laugh at people trying to get into cars they can't that I did get a chance to sit in, (let me boast for once, I never get to.) I stop by the Cadillac stand and what do I find? That silver ATS nowhere to be found. I fear I'm partly responsible for breaking their touch screen b.s. gizmo thing, requiring them to remove it from the floor. Though it is their fault for providing a hunk of shite product in the first place and fiddling with what has worked for decades, knobs and buttons.
