BYD T6: A Chinese Porsche Cayenne Knock-Off

BYD has apparently caught on that the Porsche Cayenne is a big hit in China. They're readying their own 2.0-liter equipped version, the BYD T6. Turbos? We don't need no stinkin' turbos.

A year ago something like this would have surprised the hell out of us, but we've now become so accustomed to Chinese knock-off clones that we hardly blinked when this story came across our desk. The Porsche Cayenne has been enjoying wild success in the Chinese market which has caused BYD, copier of all things near and far, to begin development of their very own home-market version if you are to believe this scanned image from ClubBYDAuto. Although we spent a month in China, our Chinese reading skills are still heavily lacking, but if you were to believe the scanned brochure page, the BYD T6 will arrive in September of 2010 and carry an, as yet, unknown 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. Looks like BYD's trying to compete with the other Euro-lux Chinese BMW X5 clone, the Shuanghuan CEO as if their BYD B8 Mercedes SL rip wasn't enough. Uh-hem... good luck with that. [via autoblog.nl]
