Traffic sucks, so why not start your morning off with some music? You provide the toast and we'll provide the jams.
It was somewhere in Georgia, when Travis and I were still fresh and awake in the first half of our marathon drive from Daytona to NYC. We had seen a hundred highway billboards for pecans if we'd seen one, and we finally pulled over to one pecan processing plant and set ourselves on its front store.
There were pecans in every shape and form. Roasted in a light, dusty candy coating was particularly delicious, as we later found. I discovered, with great pleasure, one of my favorite foods hiding among the sacks and sacks of raw pecans at the back of the huge store: raw goober peas!
So I bought myself a three-pound sack of the filling snack, and held them in reserve for my final stint at 3:30 in the morning. They brought me energy, and fond memories of Johnny Cash singing the Civil War song explaining what exactly a goober pea is.
