A British racing team has its sights set on the land-speed record for an electric-powered car, currently held by an American team. Beginning sometime next year, the Hillfields-based speed team, which includes driver Colin Fallows and mechanic Mark Newby, who set the British speed record for a jet-propulsion vehicle in 2000, will attempt to break the current record for an electric car, held by an American team, made up of students from Ohio State University. The students set a record of 314 mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah last month.
