Big Discounts Can't Save Automakers from Weak November Sales

October may have been the cruelest month for automakers, but November will be plain-out unappreciative. Despite every one of the Big Three offering big discounts, double-digit declines will continue to haunt at least two of them. GM is projected to see an 11% drop over last year, while Ford could see a 14.5% decline. The best news may be from Chrysler, which is expected to see a 3% drop, but will likely pick up around 7 percent in market share. One analyst somewhat calmly says it's yet another sign that the demand for cars is "softening." Sure, but inside he's clutching his chest and screaming, "sell, Mortimer, SELL!"
