Honda- or at least its marketing gurus- decided that the sporty CRX no longer appealed to its target demographic, so the 1992 model year had the kicky, upbeat Del Sol instead.

A year later, the marketers decided that the most important feature of the new two-seater Civic was… the lack of passenger-compartment turbulence with the roof open.

I remember that ad quite well. I also remember C&D running a comparo between the Del Sol, the Mercury Capri, the Mazda Miata, and the Alfa Romeo Spider.

If memory serves, the Alfa finished a distant last place. I've never forgiven Car & Driver for that, but at least the Miata beat the front drivers.
