For the first time, the FIA World Rallycross Championship has made its way to American soil. While the Americas Rallycross paid a visit to Austin back in July, the big league rallycross teams are taking to Circuit of The Americas in the heat of Texas.
The rallycross course is not running the full 3.4-mile track you normally see the Formula 1 cars attack, but an abbreviated 1/2-mile mix of dirt and asphalt setup within the stadium section of COTA, between turns 12 and 16. Lap times are in the mid-30 second range, and sessions are only a handful of laps, but that doesn’t stop the drivers from banging around into each other and making the races a blast to watch.
I’m on the ground all weekend at COTA, and will be shooting all the fast things on dirt. In the meantime, here’s a stack of shots from the past 24 hours to quench your rallycross thirst. Take in all these fast cars!
