Is The Sultan Of Brunei's Untouched Ferrari Enzo For Sale In California?

The Sultan of Brunei's car collection is one of the most famous — and secretive — in the world. Hundreds of cars are kept squirreled away in a locked garage where they are rarely driven. That means that some of them are decaying while others remain pristine, brand new examples of the rarest cars in the world.

In 2010, the Sultan apparently started selling a number of his cars off. And it appears that his Ferrari Enzo may have ended up in California, where it is now for sale again. Or is it too good to be true?

In addition to amazing one-off custom bodied Ferraris and Aston Martins, the Sultan has examples of some of the rarest supercars in the world that have basically never been driven.

His Ferrari Enzo is one of the cars that was up for sale back in 2010. Now, eBay seller sl8r_group has a pristine, low mileage 2004 Ferrari Enzo with just 175 miles on the clock available for the bargain basement "Buy It Now" price of $1.8 million.

I researched the VIN number, and it does not appear in any of the Ferrari Enzo registries that are currently online, which would fall in line with a car that was never registered for the street and kept in a secret bunker its entire life. It also appears to be valid for an Enzo according to a VIN lookup.

A European spec car would have obviously been imported to America after the fact, which means it hasn't just been sitting in Jay Leno's garage for eight years.

Here is the kicker: The seller uses a well known image of the Enzo when it was in the Sultan's collection, which has been used here on Jalopnik before. Of course, that picture could just have been taken from a gallery of the Sultan's cars because the seller needed another picture of a red Enzo.

But I also have good reason to be skeptical of this listing. The seller has four other cars for sale on eBay (The Enzo expired without selling yesterday): One is a Bugatti Veyron with less than 50 miles, another is a Ferrari FXX Evoluzione with 11 miles on the clock, a third is a Maybach 62, and the fourth is a Lamborghini Aventador. Pictures are supplied of each car, but it sure doesn't look like they are all kept at the same dealer.

I wouldn't say it's common for all of these cars to be together, but it isn't unheard of to have them all at a shop that specializes in ultra high end supercars. You usually find them together at dealers that have a reputation for trading high end supercars on a regular basis.

As far as I can tell, sl8r_group has never sold anything on eBay before; They have 0 feedback as a seller. As a buyer, it appears they are quite prolific, but with minor, inconsequential merchandise. Their 100 percent positive feedback is from items like a $4.08 bottle of lemon oil cleaner and a $3.29 package of guitar picks.

Maybe their buying habits don't match their selling habits, but putting a few million dollars worth of supercars on eBay as your first items seems slightly suspect to me.

I've reached out to sl8r_group to ask about the cars, and unlike the eBay ad says, they have not "gotten in touch immediately." Doesn't really sound like the actions of an "A+++++++ WOULD DO BUSINESS WITH AGAIN" seller.
