The Homemade E30 M3 Art Car
Know what's awesome? BMW's art cars, which combine huge artist's names with bright colors and plenty of Ms. Know what else is awesome? E30 M3s that still get raced. That means this car, built by a Jalopnik reader and destined for the Rolex 24 at Daytona, will blow your mind.
"I've been wanting [an E30 M3] since high school," explains Miguel Aponte-Rios. "I wanted to do something different with it. Something that would evoke its '80s era. A dozen designs, scribbles, napkins, papers and drawings later, I chose this one."
"Colors include the early days of BMW Motorsport themes and it is also a design that does not matter where you stand to look at the car, it is always different. I loved that. It also made the car 'wicked' fast even standing still."
"We've got to stay as far as we can from calling it a BMW Art Car, so we call it 'Artistic Car.'"
But this piece of art isn't destined for a gallery, it's going to be raced. It's going to be raced nationally with BMWCCA and SCCA and will be on display at Rolex.
"We're taking off 400lbs of extra crap from inside and the engine, then we're scheduled to appear at the Rolex 24 at Daytona." You'll be able to see it at the Rolex 24 under the Grassroots Motorsports tent on January 28th and 29th.
