Undoubtedly one of the weirdest BMWs the world has ever seen, this one of one 1969 BMW "Spicup" Convertible Coupé sold last week for €460,000 ($615,986) as part of Bonham's auction at the BMW Museum.

Based on a BMW 2500 sedan, this strange creation was the result of a collaboration between Italian design house Bertone and BMW. The name Spicup actually comes from a mixture of Spider and Coupe.

This odd Bimmer was initially shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 1969 where it was extremely out of place amongst the other significantly more conservative vehicles being offered by BMW at the time. After the show it was sold to a Dutch car dealer and eventually put into use as a daily driver. The car covered more than 60,000 miles during this period in time, which is a surprisingly significant amount of use for a one off show car.

The "Spicup" was thought to have been lost until it was rediscovered in a barn in 2008. The car was subsequently treated to a full frame off restoration returning it to the immaculate condition seen here. Although it isn't the most well known vehicle BMW ever created, this one off show car is certainly one of the most interesting. We're guessing whoever paid over $615,000 for it last week agrees.
