America's Most Elaborate Slot Car Track

The White Lake Formula 1 Ring is a slot car track, in a basement, built by someone with a lot of spare time. But check your bias at pit row, because this scale track is better than most real ones.

This is the work of James Harlan, a Formula 1 fan from White Lake, Michigan who turned his love for the sport into something kind of amazing. The 1,000-square-foot basement is full of win in the form of a track complete with 19 turns, 2.5 feet in elevation change, and 20-foot straights.

The photos show the incredible bridge, criss-crossing paths, amazing viewing towers, skyscrapers, and a working water feature (a converted therapeutic desktop fountain). He races Formula 1, GT and vintage cars in various heats, including a 14-minute race with simulated night time he calls the .24 Hours of Le Mans.

Harlan told the New York Times "I suppose I've taken it pretty far beyond what's been done."
