NASCAR team owner and motorsport legend Jack Roush crashed his plane while landing in Wisconsin today. Roush is reportedly in critical condition. His jet, a Hawker/Beechcraft Premier 390, broke in two and appears to be a total loss. UPDATE!
Roush was attempting to land his plane at the Experimental Aircraft Association's annual AirVenture fly-in convention at Wisconsin's Wittman Regional Airport around 6:15 PM CST. Witnesses say he stalled following what appeared to be an aborted landing attempt, dropped a wing, and then impacted the runway. No flames or smoke were seen.
Roush, an avid pilot and warbird owner who nearly lost his life in a plane crash in April of 2002, is in critical condition at a local hospital. Brenda Strickland, a Roush employee from Plymouth, Michigan, was in the aircraft during the crash. Both she and Roush were able to walk off the plane and get in an ambulance.
UPDATE, 7/28, 5:33 PM: Roush remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition. He is currently under observation for facial injuries sustained in the accident. Brenda Strickland was treated and released from the hospital this afternoon.
