The 50th Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona this weekend was one of the best ever, even if everyone didn't get to go home with a shiny watch. Our friends at MotorSportMedia were there to bring you photos from the race. — Ed.

One of only a small handful 24-hour races, winning the Daytona 24 is one of the most coveted achievements in modern racing. Watching the cars circulate around the oval is reminiscent of chariot racing once found in massive Roman hippodromes. Daytona is the proving grounds of the twenty-first century.

This year was special, however. The 50th running of the epic race has brought out drivers like the mega famous Patrick Dempsey, Brian Johnson, and Travis Pastrana. Living racing legends Hurley Haywood, John Andretti, and Sir Jackie Stewart and can also be found throughout the paddock.

Here they're just normal people and converse with fans between stints on the track. Daytona is special in that sense. Simply purchasing a garage pass gives fans an unprecedented ability to roam the track, with only pit lane being out of reach.

To win at Daytona, one must stay out of trouble and out of the garage. Much easier said then done, especially when there are upwards of eighty cars out on track with you all trying to do the same.

The first two hours always tends to turn into a sprint race, as drivers try their hardest to put empty track between themselves and their competitors. Once night falls, the pace slows to a more comfortable one and the cars settle into a nice groove. Some of them, at least. If you can be fast at night, you can win the race. It is as simple as that.

When the sun rises the next day, the carnage presents itself. This year seemed to be more calm than the previous running however, as only a few cars actually had cosmetic damage. Mechanical problems plagued many teams though, forcing some to retire even before the halfway point.

Some amazing battles took place this year in both the Daytona Prototype and Grand Touring classes. We hope you enjoy the coverage from the 50th Annual Rolex 24 at Daytona as much as we enjoy providing it.
