This is the most expensive model car in the world, at least it will be when it sells this month at auction in New York. It's a 1/8th scale model of a Lamborghini Aventador built with gold, platinum, carbon fiber and diamonds by Robert Guelpen, a German car model specialist.
If Guelpen's name sound familiar to you it's because he was responsible for the almost as ridiculous $2.93 Million Bugatti Veyron toy we showed you last year. We called his previous model the dumbest product in the history of consumerism in 2010, a title we are now going to have to revoke in order to attach it to this mini Lambo.
You could buy about 10 real Aventadors for what Guelpen believes this model will sell for next month—a whopping $4.72 million. Beyond the intricate craftsmanship required to build such a model, much of the 1/8 scale Aventador's value can be attributed to what it's made of. The price of materials alone for this ridiculous creation is well over 3 million dollars, and it's not hard to understand why.
According to GTspirit:
There are approximately 700 diamonds embeded into each seat, the suspension is hand crafted from solid gold and the wheel rims are made from platinum. Carbon fiber will be used to manufacture the body parts. This will be the first time such technology has been used to create a model car. Each piece of carbon fiber will be wrapped with a 1/1000mm thin thread of gold, a unique finish.
Guelpin hopes to donate his profit from the sale to charity and establish a Guinness World Record for the most expensive model car ever sold. As long as they can find someone batshit crazy enough to spend almost 5 million dollars on what is effectively a lavish toy he should have no problem doing both.
