About two years ago Ford executive Raj Nair said the 3.5 liter turbo V6-powered 2017 Ford Raptor would have 450 horsepower. Over the weekend some dealer documents made their way onto forums and Facebook chats confirming the same, along with torque and towing figures.
All signs say the 2017 Ford Raptor 3.5 EcoBoost will be rated to 450 horsepower at 5,000 RPM and 510 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 RPM with a towing capacity of 8,000 pounds. That torque squeaks by Ford’s last GT supercar, which put down 550 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque.
But a more relevant reference is the “regular” 2017 F-150, which also uses Ford’s 3.5 EcoBoost V6 engine rated to 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.
Now the next Ford GT, due out in 2017, also uses that turbocharged V6 but the only official info on its output there is a “projected” horsepower figure of “600 plus.” How long until somebody figures out how to get that tune into the next Raptor?
We have to put “report” in the headline here because Ford won’t officially confirm anything they haven’t explicitly stated regarding future products. But this information is being gleaned from screenshots of a Ford dealer portal which requires a credential to access.
The first complete screenshot appears to have the internet via Ford Raptor Forum user 03'Darin and it looks pretty legit to me. Other captures of the same page have popped up in the 2017 Ford Raptor Discussion on Facebook and allegedly in the closed Houston Area Raptor Owners group as well.
I won’t post it here because https://www.esourcebook.dealerconnection.com/content/ret-ford/en/vehicles/truck/f-150-raptor/2017/features/performance-handling/powertrain-availability.html has a lot of aggressive legal threats for unauthorized access and you’ve got the interesting bit now anyway.
After a few other sites posted the “leak” 03'Darin added to the thread:
“Just FYI for any of the people using my screen shot pictures showing the Raptor HP and TQ.. I’m a Ford salesman and pulled this info from our dealer source from FORD for product information. This is NOT sketchy info.”
The number sound right and the screenshot looks legit. I think the mystery’s over.
Now I’m more interested in this “Carbon Fiber Package” I read about while digging through the Ford forums. How sweet would one of these babies be in white with big chunks of carbon inside and out?
