Chevrolet took it upon themselves to spice up their current midsize offering with an emergency refreshed 2014 Chevy Malibu and, uh, they made it just as boring as before.

With all of 1.25 more inches of rear leg room and a very tasty 295 lb-ft of torque from the 2.0 turbo four, the 2014 Malibu looks like it's a success in the making. That is, assuming that America's car buying public does not give a crap about:

  • styling
  • excitement
  • cutting edge technology
  • a sense of drama
  • a feeling of luxury
  • an aspirational badge
  • LEDs
  • class-leading fuel economy
  • handling
  • pride of ownership

So if you want a middle-of-the-road family sedan with no startling or stand-out features at all, go for the Malibu.

If you think 23/35 mpg is "good enough," or if you often look at things you loathe and say they're "good enough," the Malibu is probably right for you.

Honestly, the front end isn't bad, at least in these pictures, but it cannot save this car from being the most middle of the road choice imaginable. i am more excited about the new Corolla than this thing.

Also the rear still looks fussy and the sides look impossibly heavy. It's not as bad as, say, the current Accord, but the 'Bu ain't great.
