We talk a lot about cars being works of art. They've got flowing lines, intricate details, and beautiful visages. But sometimes the best work of art is under the skin.
I'm speaking, of course, about the engine. One of the most beautiful engines ever fit into a car over the past 25 years actually ended up in a Ford family sedan. Alright, so it wasn't the basic trim model, but the V6 sitting in the Ford Taurus SHO shouldn't have been placed on engine mounts.
It should've been on a goddamn pedestal.
Interestingly enough, the masterpiece powering the Taurus SHO wasn't actually a work from Ford's craftsmen. It was made by Yamaha, which is good, because people who make pianos definitely know art. It was all squiggly lines and snaking metal, none of it covered up by useless plastic slabs, and it was an embodiment of that old "it looks like it's moving while sitting still" cliche. But it's a cliche because it's true.
And that's the thing about the Ford SHO V6, we don't even need to get into its wondrous technical specs. We don't have to mention that it was remarkably oversquare for something fitted to an American car of the time, nor do we have to mention that it sounded like music from Mount Olympus.
It just looked so pretty.
