Tony Stewart on NASCAR being too safe-thus-boring: "The media center is getting boring in here and it's too safe because y'all got four legs on your chairs. So we can start sawing legs off, you like that idea?"

A reporter asked Tony Stewart the following question at a Daytona 500 Q&A:

ROBIN PEMBERTON ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE SAFETY RECORD OF THE CAR IS THE REASON THEY ARE ABLE TO RELAX THE RULES AND LET YOU HAVE IT ON THE TRACK A LITTLE BIT. DALE JARRETT COMMENTS THAT MAYBE THE FANS HAVE TURNED OFF A LITTLE BIT BECAUSE NASCAR IS TOO SAFE. DO YOU FEEL LIKE IT IS TOO SAFE OUT THERE, THAT FANS MAYBE LIKE THE DANGER A LITTLE BIT?

It's sort of a stupid question since, as it turns out, the track is getting more dangerous even as they make the cars safer. A slightly incredulous Stewart responded with the quote above about the media center and then gave a direct answer to the question saying "I don't think fans that watch NASCAR want to watch their drivers get hurt, so no."

We agree. Fans of NASCAR don't want to see their drivers get hurt, but we think they're perfectly happy watching other fans drivers get hurt. Also, non-NASCAR fans really don't care which driver crashes as long as some of them do.
