This year marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of McLaren Racing. While the name has become synonymous with winning Formula One cars and insane street cars, the man behind that name tends to be not as well known.
That's because Bruce McLaren, the New Zealand native who founded the organization, died 32 years young in a racing crash in 1970. He would never see the immense success McLaren would become.
But he was an inspiring figure as a racing driver and an engineer in his own right, and so McLaren put together this short but moving tribute to their founder as they approach their golden anniversary.
It closes with a famous quote of his: "To do something well is so worthwhile that to die trying to do it better cannot be foolhardy. Indeed, life is not measured in years alone, but in achievement."
Godspeed, Bruce, wherever you are.
Hat tip to Erik!
