NBC's "The Pink Panther Show" featured the unique "Panthermobile" seen here throughout its broadcasts from 1969-1976. Designed by Jay Ohrberg, who is responsible for decades of TV and Movie cars, this custom creation is going up for auction in a slightly unconventional manner.
Beginning today at noon, the Pink Panther's car will be offered for sale in an online auction that will run until October 14th. It is being sold alongside a significantly less weird looking replica of the movie car from "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang".
The Panthermobile has only changed hands one other time since it was constructed in 1969. When creator Jay Ohrberg sold the car at auction in 2007 it brought $143,500. Current auction estimates place have the Pink Panther's car selling between £50,000 and £100,000 ($81,585 and $163,170).
According to the Auction company handling the car's press release, the Panthermobile's engine doesn't run and the car could benefit from some "sympathetic restoration". It isn't street legal and it sure isn't cheap, but we wouldn't be the least bit surprised if someone jumps at the opportunity to own the Pink Panther's car.
