I, for one, am very excited about Citroën’s planned return to the United States, even if it begins with some kind of ride-sharing service. This country badly needs an injection of French funkiness, the kind Europeans got for years with cars like this Citroën CX.
Perhaps you recently saw Petrolicious’ spread on a 1987 Citroen CX Turbo 2 that lives in New Jersey these days. That story was shot and written by our friend and noted Opponaut Jonathan “JBH” Harper. He had some leftover video of the car, which he was kind enough to share with us.
This CX uses a 2.5-liter turbodiesel engine mated to a five-speed manual. And because it’s a Citroën, you also get bizarre exterior styling, an interior like an ‘80s spaceship (complete with one-spoke self-centering steering wheel!) , and the best damn ride quality you’ll find on any continent.
JBH takes us on a fantastic video tour of this most unusual machine, one that never made it to North America. But the CXs were made for a long time, from 1974 to 1991, so they’re eligible for import now—if you’re a crazy weird person with a predilection for unusual French cars.
It’s cooler than driving a Honda Accord, that’s for sure.
