The refreshed 2014 Buick Regal made its debut in New York last night, and GM chose to show it off among several edgier, less-China-friendly older Buicks. One of those things does not look like the other things.
All kidding aside, Buick has some big plans for the Regal, sales of which have been flagging lately. It gets a new face, a new rear end, and the Regal Turbo and GS now get 259 horsepower and a wicked 295 lb-ft of twist out of the 2.0-liter four-banger and they offer a six-speed manual. Plus, all-wheel-drive is available for the first time ever, although you can't get a stick with that version, sadly.
As the Detroit Free Press reported this morning, sales of the Regal were down 39 percent last year, in part because it lost some customers to the smaller Buick Verano.
We'll have to see if these updates can herald Regal's comeback in countries that aren't China.
