If you wanted "upscale luxury" on a Chevrolet budget in 1970 the Caprice was the car for you—as long as you had expensive tastes. From the "astro-ventilation" to the "tufted cloth interior" it was clear the Caprice was dripping with enough elegance to make "those expensive cars a little edgy"—we're not positive we know what that means.
According to Chevrolet the Caprice was sure to appeal to people with "expensive tastes and small budgets". As a former owner of a 1970 Caprice I can at least agree with the small budgets part. My bright yellow car had a custom leopard print interior and a nowhere-close-to-stock 400 V8. Dripping with elegance it was not.
