Aiming to raise $1 million for families affected by pediatric cancer, Brian Johnson will be racing at the upcoming Rolex 24 at Daytona. Fans can send in donations by text all through the race in the frontman's "Highway to Help" campaign.
Johnson has been upping his gearhed cred ever since he showed up on Top Gear, and how he's using some of that publicity (oh, and the fact that he's a big music star) to do some good. The charity is set up by the Austin Hatcher Foundation and is a great way to turn what is basically a bunch of rich guys driving in circles for a day into something positive.
The fundraising will rely on fans texting "ACDC" to 501501 to donate $10 to the Austin Hatcher Foundation, and there will also be live promotions and a radiothon going on throughout the race to drive up interest.
Brian Johnson said of the charity drive, "This is real, this is going to happen, and we're all happy to have the opportunity to do this … AC/DC fans all over the world are now rooting for the Austin Hatcher Foundation." Indeed, so are we.
