We've told you to see "Senna." Our readers have told you to see "Senna." Now a Los Angeles woman who'd never heard of Ayrton Senna before the movie is giving away 100 tickets. There's no excuses left.
Laurel Miller, who works in documentary films herself, says her move isn't a marketing ploy: she was just so moved by director Asif Kapadia's crafting of Senna's life that she wanted to ensure more people saw it, even at the cost of $1,250:
I came up with the idea of giving tickets away because I know how a review or recommendation isn't always enough. Also, people don't like to be oversold on something. Sometimes a zealous review is a turn off and we want to discover little gems for ourselves. I realized I could recommend this movie to my friends until I was blue in the face, but the majority wouldn't go...By buying tickets and offering them up, this was a way I could ensure people would come and hopefully feel what I felt.
If you're in the Los Angeles area, you can email Laurel at this address to make a reservation for the 4:50 screening at the Landmark Theatres on Pico. Her monetary loss is your spiritual gain.
