Back when people exercised something called "optimism," they would while away the hours imagining how awesome the future would be. Looking back, sometimes they were surprisingly prescient, other times not so much. What's the most ludicrous vision for future cars?

Highway escalators? Right. That's part of the comprehensive future-vision portrayed in Disney's 1958 short Magic Highway. Of course we know futurist writers back then didn't base everything they wrote on educated predictions; nine times out of ten they just made shit up. But highway escalators? What in the world would make mountain-sized moving stairs for cars viable? And what if we got our pant-leg stuck in it? Yes, in this case, future fail.
