Swiss driver Simona de Silvestro hopes to return to practicing for the Indianapolis 500 as early as today after a crash during practice Thursday sent her car airborne and left her with second-degree burns.

Video shows the rear suspension on her Dallara-Honda broke between turns 3 and 4; de Silvestro lost control as her car hit the outside retaining wall, went airborne and flipped before landing on its left side. Crews rushed to the scene as flames shot from the car following the crash.

De Silvestro, 22, won the Rookie of the Year award at last year's race. She was released from the hospital Thursday with her hands bandaged for the burns on her hands, sending this photo on Twitter with the message: "Thank you for all the well wishes. Trying to get rid of the Mickey Mouse gloves as soon as possible."
