A winter storm has trapped more than 300 vehicles on a highway outside Sarnia, Ontario, over the past 24 hours, with 150 people rescued so far, including several airlifted to safety. One trucker caught the scene from his chilly cab.
The highway lies along one of the major U.S.-Canadian trucking routes, leading to the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron, Mich. Hundreds of people spent the night in their vehicles, and so far no injuries or deaths have been reported. One Michigan man told The Globe and Mail of Toronto that he hadn't seen a snowplow for 24 hours; he was able to stay warm in his SUV and borrow a spare bunk from a trucker.
