Putting Prius Sales In Perspective

Toyota announced today they've sold two million Prius hybrids globally since 1997. Let's put that in perspective. Toyota's sold less Prii in 13 years than the number (three million) of pickup trucks sold in just 2008 in the U.S.

In fact, since pickup trucks are hated by greenies everywhere, we decided we'd create the above chart to show how it compares with the number of pickup trucks sold here in the United States over the same 13 year period the Prius has been sold. Americans bought over 34 million pickup trucks at the same time as Toyota sold two million Priuses.

But, we are seeing a decline in the number of pickup trucks sold here in the United States from pre-financiapocalypse highs. Still, even at 400,000+ units sold per year globally, there's still a heck of a lot more pickups being sold just in the United States alone.
