Sally Field wasn't exactly prized for her acting talents in the first roles she took. It wasn't as if she was bad in The Flying Nun, it's just that it isn't possible to be good in a show with such a ridiculous premise. You also wouldn't consider Gidget a particularly transformative piece of American narrative television. And as much as we love Smokey and the Bandit, and we unironically do, the term "acting tour de force" would be inappropriate. Therefore, when she won an Oscar for her role in Norma Rae there was a sense, as foolish as it seems now, that Sally Field was not a serious talent. When she won yet another award, this time for Places in the Heart, she went on stage gushing that "I can't deny you like me right now, you like me!" which history has remembered as the far more theatrical "you like me, you really like me!" We have a new commenting system and some might be worried about being in some sort of under appreciated, avoided class. This is not the case. In fact, today's COTD comes from the TeenTrackAttack post and, just as they're giving teens Ferraris, we're giving I wanna get drunk, an unstarred commenter, the first post-2.0 COTD.
So they're training a future generation of those leasing the car to understand what they're burning, right?
We like all of you, we really do. And for the few of you out there with tech problems, we like you, too. It's being resolved and will be resolved shortly.
