Any way you cut it, GM is going for blood with the new and improved 2009 Cadillac CTS-V and word from engineers of an unofficial rating of at least 550 HP only furthers that point. It takes a lot to make the BMW M5 look like a chump, but a 50 HP advantage will do a thing like that. Of course, the engine hasn't gone through SAE certification yet, and based on GM's history of underselling the power output on its recent engines, Edmunds Inside Line is extrapolating a 567 HP figure out of the LS9 mill. We would never go so far as to speculate on numbers, but we will wring our hands in delighted anticipation.

Want!
I can't wait to hear Clarkson whine about a knob being made of the wrong grade of plastic or the headliner causing too much static in his birds nest hair or something.
This car makes me want to lubricate my wankel..Gimme, gimme, gimme!
Yay for the hometown boys. It's no Oldsmobile but I'd drive one. Although it may take a while before I find one at my price point which is um... about three fitty.
@OldeEnglishD: Ditto. Want very much.
Me likey
@tenbase:
"Blah blah American cars go in straight lines blah blah howdy y'all watered-down beer blah blah confusing alphanumeric naming conventions blah cuppa tea blah FAST."
/saves column inches in Times
600 is the new 400.
At the risk of becoming Jalopnik's resident perve, this is the second post in as many days that has produced a stirring in my loins. Between LS9s and Mario Kart flight simulators, this place is getting to be better than fleshbot.
Two things annoy me about this car:
1. Nothing
2. I won't be able to afford both it and the RS6 Avant. Or either of them.
Just squeeze an "...in the WORLD" in there somewhere and it'd be spot on.
This is a beautiful car inside and out it is a work of art. I can not wait for the first comparison test against the M3 and M5. Thank You Cadillac!!! Also thanks to Cadillacs pesky depreciation rate I can picture myself in one of these around 2012.
567 HP. That's a lot.
Why not just 5678 HP? Does it feel like 1962 to anyone else? Cars have huge horsepower and huge curb weights, and while the mileage is no where near as bad as it was 46 years ago, how much of an accomplishment is that?
Maybe history will repeat itself and in 50 years we'll be shaking our heads at the absurdly low mileage we got in 2008.
Please fix the half-assed airdam styling before sending me my fanboy card.
Are comments not showing up in this thread for some reason?
@fullmoonparty: Don't worry about becoming the resident perv- you have some stiff competition.
@fullmoonparty: Why don't you say something like, "it makes me feel squooshy", rather than grossing us all out with talk of your loins and such?
Why is there an engine cover?
@Ash (DoucheExMacchina): With 567hp what else needed to be said.
Good work all around Caddy.
@Ash (DoucheExMacchina): Douche in the machine, do you drive an automatic BMW 3-series with M stickers plastered all over it?
@Bumblebee: You know, it doesn't bother me much.
As long as misguided greenie nutsos don't start setting CTS-Vs a blaze, things just might be alright after all.
...and great looking too. they should stick that motor into the STS-V as well.
way to go Caddy!
@Bumblebee: /Maybe history will repeat itself and in 50 years we'll be shaking our heads at the absurdly low mileage we got in 2008.

Huh? Are we shaking our heads like that now?
@Number_Six: Actually, my name means "Shower out of the Car". It's ummm...French and Italian.
Needs more pedals. At least one.
@Ash (DoucheExMacchina): Ah, so it's more of driving tips kind of thing. My bad.
@Number_Six: *insert "a" where needed*
@Bumblebee:
History is repeating itself. In 50 years we will be deep into Malaise Era II. We will be shaking our heads at the absurdly weak, no-fun cars on the road.
This CTS-V will still own the road in 50 years.
People used to complain that car companies are in league with oil companies to suppress fuel-saving measures like the "100 MPG Carburetor".
If GM is in league with anyone it's Michelin. This thing will go through sneaks like Lindsey Lohan goes through an eight-ball.
I love the V line and loved the new Cadillac design language when GM revised it. Its a car worth hoping for. Sure, Clarkson will bash it, but who cares really. Its a distinctive design with some genuine performance attributes and it is definitrly american. With this line and the new Vette, GM has some real winners I think.
caddy has quietly become my favorite, when i win the lottery car...i love the new cts, now this...make it the coupe and i'll sell my soul for one in black
@beercheck: They did! You've seen the last generation.
If this is half-assed, that one was done by a lone butt hair. In an afternoon.
Clarkson may hate America, but I predict he will surprises everyone and love this car! (assumiong of course the axle tramp is fixed and the body roll minimized)
let's put it in the hands of our tame racing driver, this would have done well in this weeks M3/RS4/C-class AMG whatever comparo, Teutonic precision be damned, the Cadillac may even be more tastefully done than the coke-dealer-wanna-be-Benz
want it
the most powerful sedan.. dang
@mytdawg: Why, you're not mytdog at all. You're nothin but that Loch Ness Monster!!!
Seriously, though, I love this car. The question is: When can we expect the wagon version?
I would like to see this in person and take it for a spin--you have to hand it to Caddy, they have--not always gracefully--moved out of the old guy demo. Some (many) years ago they did a marketing release showing that Caddies tended to be owned by non-college graduates over age 58, I think it was then, while Lincolns had slightly younger and more college degree "educated" people.
Caddy has sure moved down through the age brackets, by way of the 'hood and emerged unscathed and better.
Nailed together by silverback gorillas.
It is basically a 'Vette for people who can articulate and enunciate correctly.
@PWND БЯд╒╒ ®: I would say it's a 'Vette for people who wear their medallions under their shirts.
The hp number doesn't impress me that much. Yes, it's huge. But that's not what's cool about the car. I like it because it's subtle, pleasant to look at, damned fast, and if all goes well, it will be such a competent road car and so smooth and quiet at speed, that you wouldn't even know that you had just gathered up Jeremy Clarkson at a high rate of speed unless you noticed the furry bit of brillo-curls amid the entrails painted over the hood and windshield like a racing stripe.
@Brian B: "Dammit monster! Get off my lawn! I ain't giving you no tree-fitty!"
it will only be as bad ass as the M5 if it has a "power" button!
if not, suck it caddy.
Clarkson will LOVE this car. I'm just as critical as he is and I LOVE this car. Hell, I'm impressed with the CTS with the lowly V6. It's a damn sweet ride. Must have the V.
@Turboner: What? Yeah!! The previous gen was only available in a manual. Do they sell an automatic CTS-V now? That's teh sux.
wow, the wheels look alot better on this than they do on the G8.
one day, it will be mine. unfortunately, my price bracket restricts me to "new camaro". oh, what a shame.
@NICKNICK:
600 is the new 500. However, I'm afraid that 700 won't ever be the old 600. Hopefully 3500 will be the new 4000, and 3000 will be the new 3500.
@PWND БЯд╒╒ ®:
I geuss I got the right car then yall!
is that a dent in the front just under the headlight?
if not, there goes all the theories on the general improving quality!
wait... my bad... just a funky angle-weird cut line crease thing-light mix
Outstanding! One day they'll be used and I can afford one.
Yeah, thats hot. The interior is amazing.
