It's not going to be a good year for Kia-Hyundai as changes to local currency and the backlash over false mileage claims all come together to make the company potentially less profitable. According to reports, Kia put $187 million aside to settle claims, joining the $225 million Hyundai shook out of its piggy bank.
That's a lot of won.
You'll remember that Hyundai-Kia announced it would make up the difference between the promised fuel economy and actual fuel economy for the entire time they own the car, which means that this problem isn't going away soon.
