What's The Best Hand-Me-Down Car?

I’ve been doing some homework on the Ford Ranger, oh, for no reason, when I came to the realization that the Ranger, and other small trucks like it, are pretty good vehicles that families could get a good use out of before handing down to the next generation.

Let’s call the Ranger a good “hand-me-down” car, something that is originally bought by parents or future parents to serve their needs, and then manages to survive in the family long enough to become a kid’s first car. (You know, except for that whole recall thing that just was announced.) I think the Ranger is good for this, as are all of the stereotypical wagons and, later, the minivans depicted on TV and in movies.

What are some other good hand-me-down cars? Can we establish some sort of strict criteria? I don’t know, I feel like it could be kind of open to interpretation, and I’m interested to see what we come up with.
