Look you guys, it's the new Kia Forte! And now it's available as a hatchback, too!

Actually, I'll give kudos to Kia for this design. It's quite attractive, certainly more so than the outgoing Forte 5-Door, which looked sort of anonymous and cheap. It's got quite a few components in common with the European Kia C'eed, which is the car that celebrities whip around the Top Gear proving grounds.

It can be had with a choice of two four-cylinder engines: a 2.0-liter NA motor good for 173 horsepower and 154 lb-ft of torque, and a 1.6-liter turbo with a healthy 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. That last one sounds like it could be fun if you ever find yourself on an empty airstrip trying to beat Matt Le Blanc's "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car" lap time.

Can someone explain to me the logic between Kia and Ford's decisions to shrink the grille to a vaguely recognizable line, and letting that bottom scoopy thing be the vehicle's mouth?
