Illustration for article titled The Air Forces Retro Campy Sexist Training Video

This real declassified World War II training video for the Army Air Force's P-47 Thunderbolt fighter opens with a suggestive skit involving a woman in a short skirt playing golf. "The stick is eased waaay back." Oh old-timey innuendo.

Many of the training films for WWII were produced by film studious, including many directed by Frank Capra. This doesn't come off as particularly Capra-esque, but instead stars Vaudeville star Lew Lehr, who is famous for saying "Monkeys is the cwaziest peoples."

I have no idea who the woman is, but she certainly gets a lot of leggy close-ups in the opening. The rest of the film is fairly standard training video for the day and it's not hard to imagine a room full of pilots suddenly going back to sleep, although there are some wonderful unintentional innuendos like "Hold her until she whines."
