The 2016 BMW M2 is apparently going to happen in late 2015. A successor to the insane 1-series M Coupe, it's also going to be packing considerably more power than the old car. But still through an inline six.
A source with Bimmerpost reports that the M2 will be powered by an uprated version of BMW's familiar N55 turbocharged inline six, also found in the confusingly named M235i. Power is estimated to be in the range of 365 and 375 horsepower.
Weirdly, the source says BMW considered what would've been a very boosted turbo'd four based on a future engine family.
Previous rumors about an M2 suggested it would have closer to 400 horsepower, but this gives the smaller car more of a cushion between the M4's 430 horsepower. It was also rumored to share styling cues with the M235i Racing.
Oh, and unlike the very limited production 1-series M, the M2 is expected to be in much more plentiful supply. The news just keeps getting better.
