Gary Scelzi nailed down the NHRA Funny Car championship yesterday at the NHRA World Finals in Pomona, making him only the second driver to hold an NHRA Top Fuel and a Funny Car championship title (Kenny Bernstein was the first). In a nail-biting finish, Scelzi and second-place driver went out in the second round, giving thirteen-time champion John Force a shot at his fourteenth title. Needing to win two rounds to surpass Scelzi in the chase, Loud John had his Castrol hat force-fed to him by former teammate Tony Pedregon, handing the title to Gary. Other Pro-Class champs for the '05 season are Greg Anderson, repeating in Pro Stock, Andrew Hines, repeating in Pro Stock Bike and Tony Schumacher, taking home his second consecutive and third overall Top Fuel Title.
