Ryan Dunn's "Jackass" friends expected him to die in a car crash

The friends of "Jackass" star Ryan Dunn — who died in a car crash earlier this week — considered him such a terrible driver after a series of wrecks in cars he owned or borrowed that they joked about expecting him to die in a car crash.

The sound in this clip comes from the DVD commentary of "Viva La Bam," the "Jackass" spinoff on MTV that followed Bam Margera and his friends, including Dunn. In this clip, Bam, his mother April and pal Tim Glomb talk about how Dunn had wrecked six cars of his own and three that belonged to other people. "I have him in the death pool for death by vehicle," Glomb says at one point.

Police said Dunn was driving his Porsche 911 GT3 at least 130 mph before the crash early Monday, and that his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.

I know this is a car blog, and this guy died in a car crash, but my sense about Ryan Dunn is that he was a real life jackass who was well over his 15 minutes of fame. Our society lionizes idiots like this, gives them TV shows that glorify the idiotic pranks that they do, and then we act surprised when our kids are maimed or killed trying to pull off the same senseless stunts. This won't be taken as an object lesson by our kids, it will be seen as going out in a blaze of drunken glory in a hot-ass car that was bought with the money brought by fame and fortune. The less time we can give to losers like this, the better. If we as a society start ignoring s**t like this it might, just might, go away.
