Only a day after one of the country's largest transportation hubs was brought to a screeching halt by a fire an at air traffic control center, parts of Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport suffered significant damage due to storms on Saturday afternoon.
Terminal 2 at the airport suffered some roof damage, and at least one window was reported broken in terminal 4. The storm caused a ground stop at PHX from 2:30 to 3:30PM, and 40 inbound flights had to be diverted to alternate destinations. CBS affiliate KPHO reported that the control tower at Sky Harbor was also evacuated for a short time. The area was hit with high winds that were clocked at 67MPH. In addition, roughly 100,000 electric customers reported power outages.
