Are hybrids more costly as a whole? CNW, an Oregon-based automotive research group thinks so. Their study of hybrids from design to disposal posits that some large SUVs actually cost less, energy-wise, over the lifetime of the vehicle. Not surprisingly, hybrid advocates disagree. And apparently, a study by a group at the University of Colorado has made an opposite finding. Without knowing the parameters of the research of either party, we can't really say what's what. But we still don't like Hybrid Smugness , which is a very real disease, and is by and large diametrically opposed to horsepower junkies like us. Give us diesels.
