New BAC Mono race car for the street is fast, not fake

It's got a Cosworth-tuned 280hp engine, weighs 1,190 pounds and it's real, not CGI. It's the Mono by the UK's BAC, which released new shots of its Ariel Atom rival. Great, one more car for the bucket list.

This single-seat race car for the street springs from the mind of Neill Briggs, man behind the Mk1 Ford Focus RS. He told Autocar the company is targeting 50 units of the Mono in its first year of production, with an eventual schedule calling for between 100 and 200 cars per year. It's UK only for now, but tweaks to the engine could make it emissions-ready for the rest of the world by late 2012.
