Microsoft and Toyota today announced they've forged a strategic partnership to build a global platform for ToMoCo's next-generation telematics services using the Windows Azure platform. In layman's terms — they're building a GM OnStar competitor.
Do proprietary systems really have competition? As long as you can't get OnStar in anything but GM offerings and you can't get Toyosoft's whateverit'scalled offering in anything but a Toyota product, where's the competition?
I've never heard of anyone making a GM purchase decision because of OnStar.
