Just the other day, a leaked internal dealer document said that the very pretty and very fast Mercedes-AMG GT S will cost $129,900. Mercedes has now confirmed that price, rumor has it that the base model might be quite the deal.
In Mercedes-AMG's official announcement, they say that the GT S will cost $129,900, but that does not include a $925 destination charge. That means you're at $130,825 all in for a "base" GT S.
What hasn't been announced is the price of the regular AMG GT, which goes on sale in spring 2016, more than a year from now. The GT has 456 horsepower and 443 pound feet of torque, compared to 503/479 for the GT S. We're hearing that the GT should be priced somewhere in the $110,000 to $120,000 range, with the target being the lower end of that estimate.
If that's the case, the GT might actually be a better buy than we thought it'd be. It would also be close to Porsche's strategy with pricing for the Carrera powerkit, which is a $14,000 option on a 911.
We'll just have to wait and see if the GT is really a bargain buy.
