Ah, Mazdaspeed. You're like the AMG for poors, and that's why I love you. But while plenty of folks get their kicks from the Mazdaspeed3 hot hatch, there's one 'Speed that's dearly missed.


That would be the Mazdaspeed6, an all-wheel-drive, turbocharged, stick shift only version of the family-hauling Mazda6 sedan. Despite impressive performance for its day, it was never much of a sales hit, and two generations later it remains nowhere to be found.

So let's go back in time with our friend Mr. John Davis, who says it's "a real treat to drive in traffic" as well as on the track, though its ride is harsh and there's plenty of highway noise on tap, and the brakes could be better.

Still, we miss the 'Speed6. Maybe we can hope for a comeback.
