GM gifted Super Bowl XLIX MVP Tom Brady a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Z71, probably because they've had oddly good luck with sports PR. But Brady passed off his prize to teammate Malcolm Butler, turning a simple publicity stunt into a convoluted one and looking classy doing it.
Chevy crapped out this awkward press release to try and not look like idiots:
UPON FURTHER REVIEW, CHEVROLET AWARDS SUPER BOWL MVP COLORADO TO MALCOLM BUTLER
"The Colorado was intended to be awarded to Brady, the Patriots' quarterback, in recognition of his Super Bowl Most Valuable Player award. However, Brady and Chevrolet huddled on Monday and Chevrolet determined Butler deserved recognition for his game-saving interception."
The text goes on to describe Brady as a "class act" for relinquishing his award, but I've gotta imagine Chevy is grumpy about it.
Either athlete could buy themselves a $30,000 truck with pocket change, the point of the exercise for Chevy was to obviously to associate "Superbowl MVP" with their product and now Good Guy Tom Brady's gone fuct it up.
Or maybe I'm totally wrong and Brady was so fired up about the Colorado he felt Butler deserved a better bonus for his Super Bowl performance. As evidence to that, here's how Brady reacted to Butler's end-zone interception that sealed the Pats win. Looks like "happy."
...either way, Brady comes out as the coolest guy in the room. Man that guy's good.
