How does the internal combustion engine work?

The basic principles of automobile internal combustion engines have remained the same for decades. Even today this endearingly goofy clip of gasoline going from tank to exhaust fumes is just as relevant and informative as it was for aspiring moonshine runners in the '30s.

There are certain modern systems that this film doesn't address — electronic fuel metering, emissions controls, and of course, engine management system-controlled cylinder deactivation with a variable fuel mix — but the general idea was the same in 1935 as it will be in 2015: fuel gets pumped out of a tank, mixed with air, burned in a cylinder and exits through a pipe.

Hell, it's not like electric vehicles'll be taking over anytime soon, right?
