The day-twa News is reporting that GM executives are admitting the peak of the large-SUV market is behind them, despite plans to focus heavily on its new line of light trucks. Paul Ballew, GM's executive director for industry analysis, told analysts at that big analyst meeting yesterday that thet company was no longer expecting the market to "reach or exceed its prior peak." Still, he said, demand for luxury SUVs like Cadillac's Escalade and large pickups like the Chevrolet Silverado will remain strong, a spot of good news due to those vehicles' higher margins.
