Giugiaro pens future Volkswagen Golf, Polo

Two concepts from Volkswagen-owned design house Italdesign Giugiaro, leaked via European patents, show off a future design for a Golf/Scirocco-sized vehicle and a Polo-sized vehicle.

The Golf-sized Volkswagen concept shows off a new, more angular nose with lights integrated into a sharper grille. It's both crisper than the jellybean-styling of the current Golf and more defined than the I'm-in-the-witness-protection-program vague look of the new Jetta.

It's not entirely clear if the Polo-sized vehicle's a preview of the next generation version of the tiny VW, or if it's a more refined version of the VW Up! concept. Either way, it gets the same fascia treatment and a similar greenhouse with a belt-line that dives into the door.

Both of these concepts are likely to show up Geneva and, given Giugiaro's long history with Volkswagen, likely to influence future production models.

So here's a picture of a 2001 Golf very similar to the one I drive. You know one of the things I like best about driving? Rolling the window all the way down and resting my elbow on the door. How the hell am I supposed to do that with either of these designs? If I want Hot Wheels I'll play with my kid's toys.
