According to the newsies at Reuters, Renault-Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn says the first Nissan clean diesel will hit US airspace in 2010. It'll power the Maxima. Ghosn told the Council on Foreign Relations that the Japanese portion of his bi-lateral powerdome will also launch diesel vehicles in Japan and China, adding to those it already sells in Europe. It's part of a plan Ghosn announced last year, when he said the company's new diesels would meet impending strict US regulations limiting diesel emissions to those from gasoline-powered cars. No word yet on Nissan's scrubbing tech, though we'd imagine urea injection will probably pee be the standard practice.

@TomAnderson:

Maxima wagon? We all want a new Stagea based on the GTR platform. So we can strap junior in for a sub-8 minute lap of the 'ring and thumb our noses at SRT-8 Magnum owners.

In my opinion, the Maxima died when it lost the 6MT version with the limited slip option. That was the last advantage it had over the Altima.
